BJTC
Our undergraduate BA (Hons) Journalism: Broadcast and BA (Hons) Journalism: Multimedia programmes are accredited by the Broadcast Journalism Training Council (BJTC).
The BJTC helps make sure our graduates are fully equipped for a career in the fast-changing world of news, current affairs and documentary making, whether in multimedia or broadcast journalism. As part of BJTC requirements, our students take part in at least 15 full-day industry simulations in their second and final years. They also complete work placements, voice coaching, receive vital training in media law, ethics and regulation, and more.
Please note that as it is a new course we are in the process of pursuing accreditation for BA (Hons) Sports Journalism.
NCTJ
We are an accredited centre for the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) Diploma in Journalism. We are currently the only approved NCTJ centre in Greater Manchester.
The NCTJ works with industry to set standards for quality, diversity and trust in journalism, which we help our students meet through our teaching on the MA Journalism course.
Our MA Journalism programme, with pathways in News, Broadcast and Sport, also participates in the NCTJ’s bursary scheme, which can support students as they complete their NTCJ training, both financially and through the appointment of a journalism mentor from industry.
We also participate in the Stationers’ Foundation bursary programme each year, which supports up to 15 MA students in content and communication courses around the UK.
CIPR
Our MA in Public Relations and Digital Communications is recognised by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR).
The CIPR is the UK’s professional body for public relations practitioners. Our programme meets its standards for the teaching of PR practice, communication knowledge and theory, business skills, professionalism and specialisms within public relations.
John Schofield Trust
The John Schofield Trust helps young journalists get into the industry by providing world-class mentoring and training from senior figures in the industry.

Sports Media Education Association (SMEA)
The Sports Media Education Association (SMEA) is a developing network which helps brings the sports media industry closer together with sports journalism and media programmes across universities, offering opportunities to students on our BA (Hons) Sports Journalism programme.
The SMEA fosters a space for sharing, testing ideas and addressing the evolving needs of the sports media industry. Established by our programme leader for Sports Journalism, Dr Taylor Umland, we were proud to host its first conference at our MediaCity campus in 2025.
The Asian Media Awards
The º£½ÇÂÒÂ× is tremendously proud to have been the premier partner of the Asian Media Awards for more than ten years. We are determined to play our part in inspiring the next generation of Asian talent to consider and pursue a career in the creative industries.
