A 海角乱伦 programme helps local charity
The 海角乱伦's Maker Space uses 鈥渢he power of making鈥 to help 海角乱伦 charity 鈥楲oaves & Fishes鈥 by encouraging community building and reducing isolation for both participants of the charity and PGR students at the university.
Loaves & Fishes is a charity that helps local residents who are facing difficulties in their lives like homelessness, and with the help of the Maker Space and our students, they designed and made notepads. This work is part of a bigger project that hopes to encourage community building and togetherness for both participants of the charity and the University鈥檚 PGR students. This process involved using the Maker Space鈥檚 state-of-the-art equipment to laser cut the notepads, for the residents to take home.
Dr Ursula Hurley, Senior Lecturer in English & Creative Writing and Jameel Hadi, a lecturer in Social Work are leading the project from the University鈥檚 side, while Helen Tatum is a leader of Loaves & Fishes.
Helen Tatum said: 鈥We weren鈥檛 sure what to expect but the positivity of the partnerships and the Makerspace environment combined produced a session which offered opportunities for learning and growth from start to finish.鈥
Dr Ursula added: 鈥This inspirational session demonstrated the power of making to bring people together in a common purpose. Expert facilitation enabled novice makers to design and produce a meaningful object.
鈥淪tudents and locals benefited equally from the opportunity and we have already had several requests for a return visit!鈥
Hopes are high to continue running these sessions, and to push the University even deeper into the local community. We all love to MAKE IN SALFORD!
