The station received two gold awards for 鈥楤est contribution to the region鈥 and 鈥楾he Student Radio Amplify award鈥 and a silver award for 鈥楤est student radio moment of the year.

The award ceremony takes place during the annual SRA conference, where stations from across the country go to learn about radio and network with other students.

Station Manager and second year BA Television and Radio Production student Matthew Green said: 鈥淚鈥檓 absolutely buzzing that Shock Radio is bring home two gold awards from the Amplify awards this year, it鈥檚 a great achievement.

鈥淲e started the night out with a win for 鈥楤est contribution to the Region鈥 for our SRA chart show, thanks to a great job from our presenters, Matt McGettrick and Akeila Hewitt and producers Meg Bond and James Crompton.鈥

Student radio stations host the SRA chart show once a year and the programme is broadcast live across all student radio stations. For this year, Shock Radio featured interviews with Happy Mondays鈥 Shaun Ryder and the radio DJ, Mike Sweeney.

Matt added: 鈥淯ltimately, it was a really great night for us, I鈥檓 very happy, very proud and it鈥檚 been a great few days here at the SRA conference.鈥

Francis Masubay, who presents the station鈥檚 Breakfast Show, took home two of the awards on the night for the live broadcast of him taking on the big wheel during Winter Wonderland in December.

Francis said: 鈥淲hen they announced me as the Amplify Award winner, I couldn't believe it.

鈥淚 had received silver in my category earlier and was relieved that I didn't have to do a speech! The final award came through and I was just overwhelmed with the amount of support from the Shock Radio team and the other student radio stations. Truly a night to remember.鈥

Shock celebrated its 20th anniversary last November and has played a huge role in getting students engaged with radio.

Gary Morrisroe, lecturer in BA TV and Radio Production said: 鈥淚 am so proud of the Shock Radio team - they are an inspiring group of entirely self-driven radio enthusiasts, and their talent, energy and commitment has been clearly recognised by the Student Radio Association in this year's Amplify Awards.

鈥淭o win three gongs - two gold and a silver - is a fantastic achievement and they are a credit to themselves and the university.

鈥淢ay they keep doing what they are doing - having fun and creating great experiences for their listeners ... and demonstrating that radio is as vital and dynamic a medium as it ever was. Go team Shock!鈥
