Biography

Dr Marie Stafford is a Technology Enhanced Learning specialist, based in International and Regional Development, as a Senior Language and Skills Tutor.

Before joining º£½ÇÂÒÂ×, Marie taught at University of Manchester, Edge Hill University and º£½ÇÂÒÂ× City College. As a qualified Project Manager, Marie was the Education Lead in the start-up phase of Tute.com, one of the UK’s first multi-user synchronous online learning platforms, with the company going on to win a Bett award for innovation & excellence in educational technology. Before that, Marie designed and delivered the In Touch volunteer training programme for Imperial War Museum North. In partnership with The University of Manchester Museum, the volunteer programme secured a £424,500 heritage grant, won the Star Turn Award for Innovation & the National Adult Learners’ Week Award for Opening Doors.

Areas of Research

Marie has recently completed her PhD in eResearch and Technology Enhanced Learning at Lancaster University. She is particularly interested in emerging technologies and their role in improving the student experience. Her doctoral thesis focuses on how using mobile devices as educational tools in lessons at university can improve student engagement. Other research interests pertain to generative AI, digital accessibility, digital equity, digital literacy & learning experiences of international students.

Teaching

Marie currently teaches English and Study Skills on the International Foundation Year programme and Pre-sessional English course. She has also taught across the Learn English for Academic Purposes (LEAP) suite offering UG, PGT and PGR support across the Schools, including designing bespoke provision for the School of Health and Society and º£½ÇÂÒÂ× Business School.
