The Centre for Medical Imaging, a world-class environment for teaching, learning, and research, with the opportunity to support clinical provision, has opened at the º£½ÇÂÒÂ×.
have worked with the University to provide new equipment including the Revolution Maxima CT scanner, two Discovery static digital X-ray systems, an Optima digital mobile X-ray system and five ultrasound scanners.
The University is also proud to be part of the as an Ultrasound Academy and is working with clinical providers to look to support a clinical ultrasound imaging facility which will be able to take referrals and treat patients, helping to support the NHS. The aim is to expand to plain imaging, CT and mammography referrals in the future.
The facility includes a dementia-friendly imaging room with a ceiling light, designed to look like a skylight, and natural woodland scenes printed onto the walls. The space is designed to help those who enter it feel calm and relaxed during scans and has been designed to support research projects in this field.
The mammography suite, including the SenoPristina FFDM system with biopsy, was the result of a generous alumni grant from Garfield Weston. This equipment will be used to enhance teaching and learning, enterprise activities and to support the further development of research.

Our research: Digital health and medical imaging
Digital transformation of health remains a priority for UK policy and strategy, such as the NHS long-term plan, the Topol review and priorities around recovery to support the health and social care system after the COVID-19 pandemic. Digital applications provide new and sustainable ways of building capacity and capability in public health and social care systems, addressing long-term conditions, and bridging healthcare gaps in underserved communities. Our interdisciplinary efforts focus on improving health and social care information to enable and support people to manage their health.
In collaboration with education and clinical partners, we pioneer innovative programmes to uplift the digital skills of the healthcare workforce. Additionally, we're committed to advancing medical imaging technologies to improve technical performance and enhance patient and staff experiences. Generous funding from organizations such as the NIHR, Health Education England, and NHS X supports our endeavours in this vital area.
Our courses
Radiography and Imaging combine science, technology and patient care to provide a vital role in patient diagnosis and treatment. As a radiographer, you will use a range of different imaging techniques and sophisticated technology to produce high-quality images to aid diagnosis for injury or disease as part of the multi-professional healthcare team.
Our postgraduate radiography and imaging programmes cover Advanced Medical Imaging, Nuclear Imaging and Ultrasound Imaging along with a range of single modules available for continuing professional development (CPD). As a postgraduate student, you would have access to our imaging suite as appropriate to your programme.
