The summer school is offered under the Greater Manchester Higher partnership which aims to support prospective students from a wider participation of backgrounds in the area.

Ignition was one of the summer schools held in July to year 12 students.

The Maker Space was host to a three-day STEM workshop and provided students with real-world engineering experience and explored their digital and technical creativity.

On day one of Ignition, students had an afternoon with �������� Racing team. They learnt about the different components of a racing car and got hands on experience by changing the tyres.

“Building the vehicles, allowed me to learn how to approach new problems and use my expertise to assist others”- student.

On day two and three, students had the opportunity to design their own remote-controlled car. Electrical components were put together before 3D printing the car, to finish by racing them in a competition.

A student said they enjoyed “designing, assembling and testing the cars, because it gave me hands on experience of engineering.”

After attending the engineering school, a student said they had learnt “many personal and academic skills along with learning about other opportunities open to me.”

Materials and industry guidance were provided by industry partners Morson Group and Morson Projects held a career talk to showcase the future jobs in engineering.

This gave the prospective students a real insight on where to begin their careers and how to apply to Morson Group placement for a weekend to learn more about what engineers “do” and how to apply for ��������.
