As new travel rules come into force from next Monday, meaning travellers into the UK from red list countries must quarantine in a hotel for ten days at a cost of 拢1,750, Dr Neil Robinson, travel and tourism expert at the university of 海角乱伦 Business School, says the restrictions could be devastating for the industry.
Dr Robinson said: 鈥淒ark clouds ahead for the travel sector. Recent development in the CV-19 pandemic and the requirements to isolate in a hotel upon return from overseas or face a length prison sentence, will do nothing to reassure the travelling public.
鈥淚ndeed, many have argued that we stand upon a precipice, a paradigm shift in travel consumption, which if not addressed with strategy and plan, will result in many companies going out of business.
鈥淔or me we need a road map, an informed strategy to facilitate business survival on a par with the spend post World War 2 and funds to match, running into billions. Higher taxes will follow, but surely this is a necessity to stem the tide of possible cataclysmic business failure which is likely to come if people can鈥檛 travel this summer.鈥
