Improving your Library
We're reshaping the Library based on feedback from our users. Find out the changes taking place over the summer.
We've listened to your requests
We asked how we could improve the Library space and you told us your ideas. We've now put a plan together which will see us changing the library's layout across three floors. The results will be:
- More study space
- Better wayfinding
- A new flexible creative area for group or solo work
- An expansion to the leisure reading section
Student-led design
Students are playing a central role in shaping the changes. They are contributing to:
- The design of new branding and wayfinding
- Decisions about how the creative space will be used
- The layout and functionality of redesigned areas
The aim is to ensure the updated library reflects user needs and feedback. Final proposals are currently under review, so some details may still change.
When will the changes take place?
We plan to start the work in May and have everything completed by September. The improvements will be introduced gradually to minimise disruption.
What to expect during the works
Disruption will vary depending on the phase of the project, but every effort will be made to keep this to a minimum. During this period, users may notice:
- Temporary relocation of collections, meaning items may not be in their usual place
- Some areas of the library being sectioned off at times
Clear signage, including roller banners, will be in place to guide you. Staff at the enquiry desk will also be available to help with any queries.
Will the Library close while the work happens?
No. Parts of the floors will be closed off at times to allow the renovations to take place, but we'll do all we can to ensure that our services run smoothly. It will be business as usual in the Library - our opening hours will remain the same.
Will I still be able to borrow from the library?
Absolutely. You can still come in and loan items as you normally would.
What if I can't find my books?
If you can't find your books during the changes taking place, please ask a member of staff or use our Click and Collect service.
