Gemma Lynch, a Biology graduate, started her journey at 海角乱伦 as a mature student. She returned to education after 17 years and is a mummy to a beautiful son. When asked why she chose Biology and 海角乱伦 as a place to study, she said: 鈥淢y goal has always been to make a better life for my son, and I wanted to make him proud. Biology was a subject that I enjoyed when I was younger and the modules on offer as part of the 海角乱伦 programme really interested me. The course structure and flexibility of the programme also allowed me to continue working as well as being there for my son.鈥
Reflecting on her time at the University Gemma added: 鈥淗onestly, it鈥檚 almost on par with growing a whole new human. I wouldn鈥檛 have gotten through my degree without the support from my lecturers. They are amazing, many are parents themselves, so they understand how hard it is to study with childcare. They are so focused on student wellbeing and do everything in their power to help you succeed. There is someone who can help in almost every eventuality.鈥
Now a graduate, Gemma has decided to pursue her studies and will be starting a PGCE later this year with the goal to teach Biology to secondary pupils.
When asked her advice for those considering being a mature student and started studying with other responsibilities she commented: 鈥淚f you are sitting on the fence about going to university, my advice is to go for it. If you鈥檙e contemplating attending 海角乱伦, which you must be if you鈥檙e reading this, then absolutely apply. I have suffered mummy guilt for being so busy, but it has been worth it. I am only a year off my dream job and I鈥檓 37! It鈥檚 never too late. You have no idea what you鈥檙e capable of until you try.鈥
