A part-time job is a great way to develop your employability skills and enhance your CV, as well as support yourself financially while at University.

Skills development

Gain valuable skills that employers want through part-time or vacation work. Enhance your customer service, communication, teamwork, problem-solving, flexibility, time management, leadership, numeracy, and conflict resolution abilities.

To boost your job search, craft a compelling CV and Covering Letter. Find helpful resources for both in the CVs, Applications and Interviews section. Don't forget to keep track of your applications to avoid confusion with deadlines, roles, and companies.

Attend our Part-time Jobs and Volunteering Fair, held annually in Trimester 1.

Speculative applications

Reach out to employers who may not be actively recruiting and uncover hidden opportunities with a speculative application. Don’t be afraid to email, cold call or visit them in person.

Before making a speculative approach, research the company thoroughly. Enhance your chances by including a compelling covering letter with your CV. Explain the type of opportunity you're seeking and why you're interested in working for the employer.

Christmas is a good time to look for work, especially if you don't want to work during term time. Employers start to advertise for their Christmas jobs around early November, so this is the time to look for work and submit your application. Retail and hospitality are the main areas to recruit at this time. Amazon and Royal Mail create positions over Christmas to meet high demand.
