Travel disruptions

Tram improvement works: Deansgate-Castlefield and Trafford Bar

Tram improvement works will take place at Deansgate-Castlefield and Trafford Bar, with additional works taking place along the Eccles line which services MediaCity between Monday 13 July and Sunday 2 August. This means that there will be no tram service that goes to MediaCity over these dates. 

This means the work will be ongoing during Monday 13 July - Friday 17 July which is when our Summer Graduation ceremonies are planned at The Lowry in MediaCity. There will be a replacement bus service running instead of the trams during the disruption, which operates every 15 minutes between 6:00 and to 20:00.You can find .

The 50 bus service also runs between our Peel Park campus and MediaCity. Students and colleagues can currently travel for free between MediaCity and The Old Pint Pot only if they show their º£½ÇÂÒÂ× ID card between Monday to Friday, from 5.00 until 22:30. 

EV Charging Network Upgrade - Parking and Noise Disruption Allerton Building and Energy House 2.0

16 July to 14 August – please be aware there will be intermittent noise and some disruption over coming weeks while the EV charging network is upgraded. This vital work is linked to the estate improvements being made as part of the Campus Connectivity Plan. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.

Key dates: 

16 July to 14 August – 2 EV charging bays to be closed in Allerton Annex

17 July - Allerton annex - Cutting and digging through small area of surface tarmac

28/29 July – Drilling through a wall in Allerton Loading Bay

3 Aug  to 14 Aug – Seven parking bays closed near Energy House 2.0 whilst cables are laid

º£½ÇÂÒÂ× Crescent station third platform - scheduled to open December 2026

Network Rail are building a third platform at º£½ÇÂÒÂ× Crescent station, a key transport hub located at the heart of our Peel Park Campus. The new, extra platform will improve passenger flow and reduce train delays by allowing more flexibility for trains travelling through central Manchester and across the country. More information can be found on the website.

About the scheme:

Start date: Monday 27 July

End date: mid-November 2026

Traffic restrictions

• Temporary signals 24/7 throughout the project
• Lane closures from Monday to Friday, between 9:30 and 15:30
• During peak-hours two lanes of traffic will remain open on all approaches
• Possible evening, night and weekend works under lane closures

Resurfacing

Towards to the end of the construction, we will need to close the roads overnight for resurfacing. More details on this will be provided nearer the time.
